A keen supporter of Gaelic in Northeastern Florida has sent us a picture of a booth she set up at the Northeast Florida Scottish Games and Festival, in Green Cove Springs on Saturday, February 24th.
Donna Chouinard (McNeil) is passionate about Gaelic and has been holding Gaelic language demonstrations for 4 years at the Games. The picture on the left shows her (center), her partner Gary Daly (right), and Breawna Smith (left) at their booth this year, proudly sporting their GaelicUSA T-shirts!
Donna tells us about the visitors to the booth: “I had many attendees that repeated the sentiment of having travelled to Scotland and not seen or heard much (or any) Gaelic at all. It made me happy to be able to share Gaelic with them and the efforts being done here, so far from the motherland. It was great to share resources with them and direct them to specific areas in Scotland that they’re more likely to hear/see Gaelic. Thanks again for the opportunity to support such a great endeavor! Beannachdan!”
She says that the Games there are very supportive of Gaelic and are glad to display it in their program.
We’re delighted to see that Gaelic has a space at the Florida Games and would love to see it make inroads at other Games where it has not yet been promoted.
